Master Sangha

Master, Sahun Lakhbir S. Sangha VII (Chill Dan)

On the evening of the 18th May 1974, Mr. Sangha , then in his early 20's
enrolled in Master Choy's (then a 2nd Dan) Hillingdon school. His progress through the kup grades was without fuss, putting in a punishing work rate at every training session and entering the odd tournament (there weren't many around in those days and those that were, had no weight divisions thereby concluding with usually the 'biggest' competitor winning ) when they did not interfere with his work and family life.

He finally achieved the coveted status of Black Belt I Dan in the September of 1977. History is now the judge of the years and degree of commitment from the young man who transitioned from colour belt to Black Belt, assistant Instructor to Master Choy and then finally to being an Instructor in his own right. The absence of proper 'Instructors' courses in those fledgling days of Taekwon-do meant that Master Sangha, like other early Instructors had to learn his skills in 'standing in' scenarios, first at his parent school on occasions and then honing his new found skills on a regular basis at one of Master Choy's other schools, Putney.

At the age of 27 when he received his Black Belt Master Sangha wisely chose the route of 'teacher'. If success is measured by quality of product, then to he has to be categorised as being one of the most successful. If success is measured by strength of endeavour and depth of commitment to his chosen career, that of Taekwon-do Instructor, then his has to be one of the success stories in the annals of BUTF history.

Together with undertaking his ever increasing teaching work load, Tooting TKD school in the early 80's, Twickenham in the middle and finally Cranford in the late, Master Sangha has held the position of Treasurer and Licensing officer since the inception of the Federation.
